I met Elis through the Teton Gravity Research online forum.
I joined the forum on a Thursday morning (I think it was October 21, 2004), after hearing about it on a business trip to California. The forum turned out to be rather addictive, and I spent more time on it that I probably should have (think work time).
The next day I got home from work and turned on the forum to find a post requesting help moving furniture from someone who had apparently just moved to Utah. It's probably important to note that the TGR forum is a gathering of skiers and snowboarders, and we had just received the first big snowstorm of the year here in Utah...so help from other forum members was hard to find. The friend that had introduced me to the forum explained that it is a tight community of members that go out of their way for each other, and I didn't really have any immediate plans, so I sent a message offering to help. I should also note that everyone on the forum has a "board name" and it's not always clear whether someone is a man or a woman.
I got a message back from Elisabeth explaining that she had just moved to Peoa (at which point I'm thinking, "Where the hell is Peoa?"). Turns out Peoa is just outside Park City, and I had loose plans to go out in Park City with a friend. I repeated my offer to help, said it was no big deal, and made the drive to Peoa.
I knock on the door at the house, and I'm greated with, "Hang on...here, take this dog treat" from a hand inside the house. I hear some more activity inside, and then finally the door opens and I'm ushered in to meet Elis' dog, Kage. Evidently, the "cookie" was intended to convince Kage that I was his friend...thankfully it worked.
I helped Elis move in the remaining items from her trailer (she failed to mention upfront that she had a sleeper sofa, and that I was going to carry the heavy end) and asked her if she'd like to come out to the bars with me and my friend...which she did.
The first date followed the next weekend. Brighton Ski Resort decided to open the last weekend of October (the earliest Utah resort opening on record) and I offered to give Elisabeth a ticket to come up and ski on Sunday...Halloween. She again accepted, and it ended up turning into our first date.
Our choice of October 13th for the wedding is no coincidence. Halloween would be a little late for a fall wedding, so we flipped 31 to 13 and found the perfect date for our wedding. Our choice of the 13th was firmly cemented when I found out that it would be the 61st anniversary of my grandparents' first date.

Time to blow the dust off this site and get down to serious business I suppose:)
Our wedding planning got sidetracked quite a bit between our busy schedules, and the major house renovation project. We did have a lot of fun in between too. As far as the house goes, we had the exterior completely redone with siding, gutters, new windows; and couldn't be more thrilled with our favorite two features: the bay window which has a gorgeous view of the mountains and our double front doors, which are 8 ft tall!
This space reserved for the He Said/She Said version of how we met... on the Internet! True Story.
We don't really know yet. HA! Good answer, no?
We are trying to figure it out, and while we'd love to get married sooner rather than later, our busy schedules are making it difficult to work around.
We're tentatively zeroing in on Fall 2007, which is terribly far away, but we just don't think we can pull it off for Fall 2006. Matt & I met in the fall, got engaged in the fall - it would be nice to also get married in the fall. Spring 07 isn't totally out of the running however.
